Rachel Powell, DVM

Dr. Rachel Powell joined the Oakland Vet team in June 2017, bringing a special emphasis on Equine Sports Medicine and Dentistry.

Rachel grew up following her father’s work across Oregon and the nation on large construction projects, building bridges and dams, and cleaning up after the Mt. Saint Helens eruption. They settled in Chicago, where she finished school and completed Vet School at University of Illinois in 2002. She worked in mixed animal practice for several years before focusing in horses when she joined, and then purchased Heartland Equine Health Center in Springfield, Illinois.

When life-changes and the economy in Illinois led Rachel and her husband, Doug, to look for a fresh start, they instantly fell in love with Oakland. Knowing that our team was the perfect fit to serve our animals and the people who love them with fearless passion and commitment to greatness, they pulled up stakes and jumped in with both feet!

Rachel and Doug bought a small farm in Sutherlin to share with their 2 hounds and 3 horses. Rachel loves to compete in Endurance Riding and Dressage, hiking and exploring her new home state with her loved ones.
