Gene grew up in East Los Angeles and joined the US Army in 1989. He served 7 years as a medic, including duty in Northern Iraq in 1991, and at Walter Reed Army Medical Center-Emergency Room in Washington DC. He graduated from Colorado State University-Veterinary Medicine in 2009 before coming to Douglas County. Gene and Wendy (the executive director at Saving Grace Pet Adoption Center have been married for 23 years.
Megan was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay area. She graduated from UC Davis with a BS in Animal Science and a minor in Public Health in June 2020. She is passionate about animal welfare and hopes to attend vet school in the future. In her free time, she can be found hiking, exploring Oregon, or spending time with her young OTTB horse named Moose.
